The Blend Takes On the 2018 World Food Championships

More than 1,500 home cooks and chefs traveled from across the globe to compete in this year’s World Food Championships (WFC). From barbecue to dessert and everything in between, the weekend-long competition was full of beautifully crafted and deliciously curated recipes, including blended burgers.

As the Official Infused Sponsor of the World Burger Championship, we couldn’t wait to see the blended burgers to be created. During the signature round of the competition, chefs were encouraged to cook blended burgers with at least 25 percent mushrooms added to Heisman Trophy winner Bo Jackson’s Bo’s Burgers GlandSlam Angus Beef Patties.

After a fast-paced afternoon of blending, seasoning, grilling, building and finally tasting, the winner of the blended burger leg of the competition was announced: Susanne Duplantis of Makeover My Leftover! Her “Cool Surf-n-Turf” blended burger consisted of cast-iron blackened beer-infused steak burger blended with hickory smoked mushrooms. The delectable blended burger not only earned her second place in the signature round, but also earned her a place in the Top 10 round of the World Burger Championship.

“When I saw the chance for using mushrooms, I was so excited! Not only am I a ‘shroom lover, but I used to be a vegetarian, so mushrooms used to be my burger! I always smoke my mushrooms to bring out their natural earthiness, giving them a meaty grilled flavor on their own, so it was an easy decision to blend them into my steak burger.” – Susanne Duplantis
